1 package yeast
1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten
2 cups flour
melted butter
In large mixing bowl, combine the 1 1/2 cups flour and the yeast. Heat milk, sugar, butter and salt just till warm, stirring constantly till butter almost melts. Add to dry mixture. Add egg. Beat at low speed of electric mixer (by hand will work also) for 30 seconds, scraping bowl. Beat 3 minutes at high speed. By hand, stir in remaining 2 cups of flour to make a soft dough. If it's still too soft, add more flour a little at a time. Shape into ball. Place in lightly greased bowl, turn once to grease surface. Cover, let rise in warm place till double (1 1/2 - 2 hours). Punch down, turn out onto floured surface. Cover, let rest 10 minutes. Divide dough in half (4ths if recipe is doubled). Roll each half into a ball, roll out ball into a 12" circle. Brush with melted butter and cut into 12 triangles. Starting with fat side, roll each triangle up, place on baking sheet and slightly curve roll into a crescent shape. Cover and let rise till double, 30 - 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 -12 minutes. After removing from oven, brush with melted butter. Makes 2 dozen rolls.
