ITALIAN COOKIES (ANISE)

3 cups flour
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon anise flavoring (or almond extract)
1 cup crisco, butter, or vegetable oil - if using oil start with 3/4 cup oil and if mixture is too dry, add a little more)
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk

Icing -
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon anise flavoring
colored sugar or nonpareils

Preheat oven to 375ยบ.  Mix sugar and milk together.  Add remaining ingredients (except icing ingredients) and mix together to form a soft dough consistency.  Drop by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 5 - 7 minutes until set and edges are light brown.  Remove to cooling rack.  When cool, dip tops into icing.  Sprinkle with colored sugar or nonpareils.

For 2/3 of the recipe use:
2 c flour
2/3 c sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp flavoring
2/3 cup shortening or butter
2 tsps baking powder
1/3 cup milk
