1 1/3 cups water
1 egg
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 cup molasses
4 cups bread flour
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 1/2 tsps or two pkgs yeast
If using bread machine: Place all ingredients into machine in order given starting with water and ending with yeast. Start machine and let it mix. Check batter after a few minutes of mixing because dough is very sticky and you may need to scrape the sides with a rubber scraper before letting it finish mixing and baking.
If mixing by hand: Combine all of the liquid ingredients in a large bowl. Stir in cornmeal and salt. Then add 2 cups of the flour and the yeast. Mix in mixer or stir by hand. Add the final flour and keep stirring. The dough will be too sticky to knead so just be sure that all of the flour is mixed in well (no lumps) and divide batter evenly between two greased loaf pans. Let rise until double then bake at 350ยบ for 50 - 60 minutes.
After removing bread from pans (either machine or loaf) lightly butter the top. This bread is very moist, chewy, and yummy!
