SOUR MILK MUFFINS

1 3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 well beaten egg
3/4 cup sour milk or buttermilk*
1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted shortening

Sift dry ingredients together in to mixing bowl.  Combine liquid ingredients and add to dry ingredients.  Stir quickly, mixing lightly.  Fill greased muffin tins 1/2 full.  Bake at 400ยบ for 20 - 25 minutes.

*To sour milk put 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar into glass measuring cup.  Add milk to 3/4 cup line.  Stir and let sit 5 minutes.
