1 1/2 cups steel cut oats
4 cups water
2 cups milk
3 Tablespoons ground flax seed
2 teaspoons vanilla
Fruit and spices as desired (suggestions below)
Banana flavored: 2 mashed bananas, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Apple flavored: 1 large apple chopped or 1/2 cup applesauce, 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Raisin flavored: 1/2 cup to 1 cup raisins, 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Pumpkin flavored: 1/2 to 1 cup pumpkin puree, 1 1 /2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon clove
Combine all ingredients in crockpot. Cover, set on low and cook overnight (7-8 hours). Stir well before serving. sweeten with maple syrup and add a splash of heavy cream.
